From the Doctor
With proper gum care,
your natural teeth can last a lifetime
It weighs on my heart every time I see patients coming in for implants.
In most cases, the tooth itself wasn't the problem. Far more often, the gums weren't managed in time, leaving extraction as the only option.
It's easy to put off gum treatment because it seems painful or bothersome. But just getting scaling once a year and visiting promptly when something feels off can extend the life of your natural teeth by 20~30 years.
No matter how good implants are, no prosthetic can beat a natural tooth.

Health Warning
Gum disease doesn't stay
in your mouth alone
Bacteria from the gums travel through blood vessels
and cause far more serious conditions than you think.
Cardiovascular disease risk 3x↑
Periodontal bacteria penetrate blood vessels, causing inflammation in vessel walls and promoting blood clot formation. Studies show that those with gum disease face up to 2.8x higher risk of heart attack and 16%+ higher risk of stroke. Conversely, regular scaling alone can reduce heart disease risk by 10~14%.

Diabetes complication progression 2x↑
Gum inflammation increases insulin resistance, creating a vicious cycle that disrupts blood sugar control. Periodontitis makes HbA1c management difficult, and conversely, diabetes reduces gum treatment effectiveness. Clinical studies show periodontal treatment alone can reduce HbA1c by 0.4%.

Dementia risk 70%↑
When the periodontal bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis crosses the blood-brain barrier and enters the brain, it accelerates beta-amyloid accumulation. Toxins from this bacterium have been found in brain tissue of Alzheimer's patients, and leaving gum disease untreated for 10+ years significantly increases dementia risk.

Preterm birth & low birth weight 7x↑
Prostaglandins, inflammatory mediators from the gums, can travel through the blood to the placenta and trigger premature labor. Since gum care is easily neglected during pregnancy, checking gum health before pregnancy planning or in early pregnancy is highly recommended.

Our Philosophy
A dental clinic that actively
recommends gum treatment is
a truly sincere clinic
No matter how good implants are, they cannot beat natural teeth.
Preserving your natural teeth is the best treatment.
Why do many clinics avoid gum treatment?
Implants after extraction are far more profitable
Saving a tooth through gum treatment doesn't generate implant procedure fees.
Low insurance reimbursement relative to time and effort
Gum treatment is detailed and time-consuming, but yields low revenue, making clinics reluctant.
Ongoing care needed after treatment with uncertain results
Without consistent patient cooperation, recurrence is easy, creating pressure on treatment outcomes.
Why Godeok First Dental insists on gum treatment
Preserving natural teeth
should always be the #1 priority
Even if it's a bit uncomfortable or inconvenient, saving your teeth is the best treatment for both you and us. We find the greatest fulfillment when patients keep their teeth for a long time after gum treatment.
Comprehensive Dentistry Specialist direct treatment
We precisely diagnose gum conditions and personally manage everything from treatment planning to completion.
4-step pain relief anesthesia system
Gargle anesthesia → Topical anesthesia → Electric anesthesia device → Nerve block anesthesia. We minimize the discomfort of gum treatment as much as possible.
Regular maintenance program
Even after treatment, regular check-ups every 3~6 months prevent recurrence and extend tooth lifespan.
Care Levels
Sometimes brushing alone
is not enough
Gum health requires step-by-step care.
Both scaling and gum treatment are covered by insurance.
Brushing
Removes plaque and bacterial film from the tooth surface and above the gumline. Proper brushing is the first step in preventing gum disease and should be practiced at least twice a day.
Tartar deep below the gumline (subgingival) cannot be removed by brushing alone.
Scaling
Removes hardened tartar and plaque above the gumline using ultrasonic equipment. Studies show that a single scaling session can reduce cardiovascular disease risk by 10~14%. For those aged 19 and above, one session per year is covered by health insurance.
Scaling alone cannot reach deep below the gumline (subgingival areas).
Age 19+ · Once per year · Insurance Covered (co-pay 20%)
Gum Treatment
Precisely removes tartar and bacteria lodged deep within periodontal pockets using a curette (periodontal treatment instrument), then smooths the root surface to prevent bacterial reattachment. When necessary, Perioclean antibiotic ointment is applied directly into the periodontal pocket. This procedure is covered by insurance and is performed in 1~4 sections depending on severity.
Regular check-ups every 3~6 months after gum treatment help prevent recurrence.
Insurance Covered · Section-by-section · Anesthesia included
Insurance Info
Both scaling and gum treatment
are covered by insurance
The cost is minimal, so even without symptoms, get scaling at least once a year and have your gum health checked. The earlier it is detected, the simpler and less costly the treatment.

FAQ
Isn't scaling enough?
Scaling is the first step. But if gum disease has progressed, specialized treatment is needed to remove deep bacteria. Gum treatment every 6 months helps preserve natural teeth longer.
I heard gum treatment hurts — is it okay?
Don't worry. Our pain-minimization system ensures comfortable treatment. Many patients are surprised that dental treatment can be this comfortable.
How often should I get treatment?
Scaling once a year (insurance covered), gum treatment every 6 months is ideal. For severe cases, 3-month intervals are more effective. Regular care can help you keep natural teeth for life.
How does insurance apply?
Scaling is covered once a year. Gum treatment may also qualify for insurance. Detailed coverage explained during consultation.
Why do other clinics avoid gum treatment?
Honestly, implants are more profitable. Also, if extraction becomes necessary after gum treatment, patients may be unhappy. But we prioritize preserving natural teeth with our specialist's high success rate.
